CATTLE YARD DESIGNS

A poorly planned cattle yard slows down every job and puts stock and handlers at risk. The right cattle yard design accounts for stock flow, gate placement, and future expansion, so the yard works with your herd instead of against it. RPM Livestock Equipment manufactures a full range of Australian-made cattle yards, including small cattle yard designs for compact operations through to large-scale systems with forcing yards and calf races. Every layout shown below can be built as-is or adapted by our in-house draftsman into a custom cattle-yard design suited to your property.

Standard Cattle Yard Designs & Layouts

Our standard yard systems range from the compact 30/20 yard system through to the large-scale 320/200 yard system, so there's a layout suited to properties of every size. Each system is built around the same principle: cattle should move through the yard with minimal stress and minimal handling effort. That means clear sightlines into the race, gates that swing where handlers actually need them, and a forcing yard that channels stock forward instead of letting them baulk or double back.

Choosing between our standard systems generally comes down to three things: how many head you need to hold and work with at once, whether you need a calf race alongside the main system, and how much room you have to build on. Smaller operations and hobby farms are typically well served by a small cattle yard design like the 30/20 or 60/35 yard systems, while larger commercial operations running bigger mobs often step up to the 200/140 or 320/200 yard systems. Several of our mid-to-large systems, including the 80/45 and 110/80, are also available with a calf race or Safe-T-Force option, giving you finer control over stock flow and an extra layer of safety for handlers working close to cattle.

Every standard layout on this page reflects proven yard-design principles refined over years of building cattle yards across Australian properties, so you're not starting from a blank page. If none of our standard layouts fit your property exactly, our in-house draftsman can adapt any design shown below or create a fully custom cattle-yard design around your existing yards, sheds, laneways and terrain.
